Off we go to Hakone - 27/01/12

Checked out on hotel and manage to have my luggage couriered to the new hotel giving us more time to explore the shinjuku area before we head to Hakone.

The shops was still close as we were early. So went for breakfast an walked around.
The romance car was very comfort Le. Bought a Mille crepe to enjoy along the way.

Hakone was very nice. The terminal area had a stretch of shops meant for tourist.

Checked into Okada. Had the semi jap semi western room. Had lunch we packed from shinjuku and headed for the onsen.

The hotel had an indoor and and outdoor onsen. But we went to the one next door as the scenery was prettier.

Experience my first snow fall and it was great.

Had dinner in the room and it was a feast.

Slept on futton bed.

Hakone - Tokyo 28/01/12

Last day at Hakone. Went for another round on onsen before checking out. Experience my first earthquake when i was naked in the bathhouse. Hahaha...
What an experience.

Walked around the bus terminal as we had time. The express train was to leave at 11.10am. But due to the earthquake this morning, the train was not in service!!! We had to take the normal train to Odawara and change to another train to Shinjuku. Double the time!! OMG!!! The journey was horrible. The seats were uncomfortable. But at least we had a seat. It was so crowded. An experience indeed.

Checked into hotel and took a train to Omotesando. Expensive area. All Atas shopping. Just breezed through the are and ended up in Harajuku. Walked daiso and had tempura for dinner before heading back to hotel.

Walked around hotel area and ni-chome. Had pizza.

Tokyo - 29/01/12

Had ramen near Harajuku before heading to Meiji shrine.

Meiji shrine was awesome. Though it was abit of a walk from the main gate. I enjoyed the slow walk and the coolness.

Saw a wedding ceremony and it was great.

Went to Shibuya after that. Went to Tokyo hands and did some shopping

Had shabu shabu for dinner and headed back to Shinjuku for our last night. Tried to find daiso and experience kabukichu.

Tokyo - 30/01/12

Last day in Tokyo

Had Raw abalone sushi which I didn't like it at all.

Shopped for phiten at takashimaya.

Took Narita express to airport and was served by a very friendly Japanese who visited Singapore a month ago and he loves Singapore and Singaporeans so much.

Time to go back to reality!

Nice drink

Saw the ad and went to search for it... Taste wise it's really very good. Can add in vodka and sprite and voila... Yuzu sparking sake.

Sigh... Too bad now nursing a bad cough. If not I'll be drinking this...

The Tastings Room

Caesar salad. The bacon was so crispy and non oily. Oozing poached egg.

Egg Royale. Nothing fanciful... But made a one fine happy day for me.

Sous Vide Pork Belly with Crackling Skin. Crispy, juicy and tasty!

Vanilla Creme Brûlée. Smooth and creamy. Totally delish.

Hairy crab...

Visited Putien today to try their hairy crab. At $38 a pop. Can consider it to be quite a luxury item.

So how was it? Well... The roe was very rich I must say... The vinegar that was served together cuts the heaviness. Thank God for that!

Been there done that!! Give me Sri Lanka crab anytime!!!

Black Canyon @ Fusionopolis

This place is like a little hidden treasure. Serving really good thai food. Fusion type in fact.

I love their Tang Hoon salad and their Green Mango Salad which I will order whenever I am there.

Today we tried something different. The spicy long beans with mince chicken and prawns. It was very nicely done. They were generous with the dried shrimps and the chili was simply shiok ah!!!

I can't really recall if this is the first time I'm having the red curry. But i was not disappointed with it. The potion of the chicken meat was generous and it was fresh too. Just that they use breast fillets instead of thigh or wings which I would have preferred.

Once again Black Canyon has surpassed my expectation.

Mille crepe from Classic Cake

Dark chocolate flakes all over a pile of thin crêpes layered thickly with smooth pastry cream, and topped off with caramelized sugar to give you a mouthful of rich flavors with every bite.

Uncle Sim Curry Fish Head

I was reading some previous post the other day and it really brought back some memories!!

Some food places that I don't even remember trying. Like this curry fish head stall at Whampoa market.

But somehow. It didn't taste right. It was rather bland and flat. Perhaps the chef was having a bad day that night when I was there.

Anyone can recommend me good and nice curry fish head?

IPPUDO SG at Meritus Mandarin

The difference between the Red and White bowl is that the white bowl is meant for their original recipe pork soup ramen, while the red bowl is for the pork soup ramen plus a special miso ball and garlic oil.

Preferred this version to the white bowl... as the white bowl has a strong ginger smell to it... somehow I prefer garlic to ginger!

After hearing and reading raves about Ippudo... i still prefer tampopo anytime!

Ochacha

Evergreen favourite...

Would you go for this or Starbuck??

I will go for this!! Anytime!

Pow Sing

Serangoon Garden.... usually you will come here for Chomp Chomp... Aston... but decided to try something different... So we walked into Pow Sing... See how mountain turtle I am... this place is suppose to served the most famous Hainan Chicken Rice and Peranakan food... yet this is my first visit!

Overall the food was not bad... and these are what we ate!

Ngoh Hiang $8
Small bits of water chestnuts.. mixed with prawns and meat.. it was fried till cripsy and it was good!

Chicken Meat $4
We found it to be ok only! Oooops!!!

Nonya Cabbage Roll $8
Quite unique right? Otah wrapped in Cabbage with curry sauces... nice!

Bakwan Kepeting Soup $8
It was so so... there was no crab meat in to... maybe too little...

Well... will be back to try other dishes the next time... read their Fried Cuttlefish and the Pork Rib is good too!

Old bugis Kway Chap - Since 1973

Visited the new Sengkang Kopitiam Square for dinner and chance upon this very traditional Kway Chap Stall. I'm a Kway Chap fan but seldom get to eat nice ones... the usual flare like Yu Kee and those found in food court. I remember when I was in BKK, I ate some nice Kway Chap like thingy that is served with rice and I am please to find it at this store. However, I did not try it that day as I wanted to try their Kueh...

Had their Kway Chap set with Big Trotters and I must say it turned out better than I have expected!

They serve with the usual beancurd, eggs, fish cake, belly pork, intestine and Pig Skin... I must say that I find the pig skin to be good... without the hair i usually find in other places.

I would like to recommend their pig trotters for the soft and tender meat... not too fatty also... and their salted vegetable is quite unique... very cantonese style...

I will be back for more.... =)
